Crude oil, heating oil, and coal normalized to units of price per MMBTU for purposes of comparison with natural gas. It should be noted that this is not always a direct comparison. For example, crude oil and heating oil are more processed and require greater transportation costs, so that they may trade at a premium to natural gas. Likewise, coal is plentiful and, as a solid, is easy to transport, such that it may trade at a discount to gas. Rather, what is important is to monitor is the trend over time between commodities.
